Hello team! Happy Friday!
We've listened to the doom-y sounds of Sleep. We've spun loud and thrash-y Metallica records. Today, I want to share something truly heavy, though. Hold on to your butts!
Remember these bangers? "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." Okay. I admit, heavy might not be the right word... What word would be more correct? Harsh? no... Brutal? not that either... Fun? Definitely!
Julie Andrews is a Rock'n'Roller
Take a listen to "The Lonely Goatherd." If you don't recognize the song from watching Sound Of Music every Christmas growing up, you might recognize the riff from Gwen Stefani's hit song "Wind It Up" from her album The Sweet Escape. The "Rich Girl's" song is clever! Julie Andrews' song is even more clever! Turn your stereo up for this ripper of the week!
"There's no need to fear! Underdog is here!"
When I was a whipper snapper, I used to set up games for myself where I had to come from behind. I once told my friend Biniam at the end of an eight mile run that I would give him $5 if he could beat me in the last mile with a 100-yard head start. If my friends and I only numbered nine but wanted to play basketball, I would offer to play on a team of only four. I thrived on challenge!
Why then, as an adult, do I sometimes avoid challenge? I don't know! I'm going to change that habit right back around!
1) Seek out the things I'm scared of!
2) Embrace the challenge of hard tasks!
3) Learn to love the struggle!
Will you join me?
And remember readers: "In great attempts it is glorious even to fail!" (I got that quote from a fortune cookie)
Have another great weekend!
